Oma Karki   Cinematographer

She was born on 1992-07-18 at Santapur VDC of Rautahat (now Chandrapur municipalty- 7). She is the eldest daughter among one daughter and two sons of Govinda Karki and Goma. She was born in middle class family of village and her childhood was good in comparison to her friends. From childhood she was good at studies, hard worker, and topper, curious and strong fighter. At the age of four she was admitted in ‘Shree Kalika Madhayamik Bidhyalaya’ which was at about one kilometer distance from her home. Lastly, she passed SLC from same school at 2010. Though the profession of her family at that time was agriculture.

She used to be busy in watching television 24/7 when she had school holiday or when she was free. On Saturday, she used to stay to watch movie by quarrelling and making excuses. She was so addicted to watch movies that while making and eating food also her eyes used to go towards TV. The curiosity of how the movie is shot, how it is made and in what way it is shown at television was started while she was studying at class 6/7. She was interested towards camera and movies since childhood. Her passion was to become cameraperson while her school level education was about to finish. Her daily routine changed after SLC. She entered capital city dreaming how to fulfill her childhood dreams.  She had relatives in ‘Maitidevi’ of capital city. She expressed her feelings in front of all. Her relatives suggested to take training at first. Now who, where and how to learn? Like the saying ‘where there is will, there is the way’, she met Nepal army’s retired senior cinematographer Man Bahadur Thapa through her relatives and she talked and came to know him. Thapa also promised and motivated that he would give her training at ‘Dreams Creation’ and take her at programs with him. At the same time her SLC result got published and she had compulsion to return back home. Then she joined ‘Suvalal Bahumukhi Campus’ of Santapur which was 3 kilometer far from her home. But she did not went to college. And again she came to Kathmandu and straighten her destination. Oma says smiling, ‘while meeting Man Bahadur Thapa, I felt like I met god. Then I started learning to click photos and went to parties and marriage ceremonies to click photos. Then I started to shoot documentary, television programs, profile, TV series, educational advertisements, and also started to study further at Kathmandu.

After being an expert in profession, Oma worked at Avenues Khabar Television in 2072/73 BS. She has experience of working at famous programs like ‘of the bit’, ‘khabar vitrra ko khabar’, ‘sasaktikaran’, ‘byakti, bisaya ra bisesh’, ‘crime’ and other news. The she was engaged in ‘Janata Television’ for one year. She worked as a good cameraperson in ‘Celebrity kitchen’, ‘dohori’, ‘style n city’, ‘CMW’, ‘bioline’ etc. as well as in news and entertainment. She is busy in ‘Himalaya Television’ these days. As well as she has shown her creativity in famous and historical documentaries like ‘Katha nalapani ko’, ‘Parinam’, ‘Pariwartan’, ‘Ujayalotira’, ‘Enforce disappearance’, ‘Air craft museum’, ‘Garibi’, ‘Bhukampa le pareko aasar’, ‘Bi Pi ko bidhroha’, ‘Hijacking for democracy’ etc. She has done shooting of around two hundreds of documentaries, hundreds of television programs, same amount of profiles, research documentary, more than dozens of TV series, some films, digital cinemas, around three dozens of educational advertisements. Despite of these, she has worked at various formal and informal programs. She is also engaged in social NGO’s and INGO’s. She is honored with different award due to her creativity, capability and activeness.
