Biography
Sitaram Kattel is very popular national level comedian artist of Nepal who is mostly very popular with the name of Dhurmus.
He was born in Necha Betghari VDC of Solukhumkhu district (known as the district of Mt. Everest). He was born as the elder son of Bograj Kattel and Kamala Kattel on 4th of Asadh, 2040 BS. When he was 8 years old, his family migrated to Gauradaha, Jhapa District where he completed his secondary level education. Since childhood he has to face the economic crisis due to low income of family. So, sometimes he used to plough the field or make a sketch of the others for getting money from which he used to buy the stationeries. Despite of compliance of completing all household works like working in the field, colleting fodder he was one of the genuine posing sharp mind and competitive student of his school. He passed his School Level Certificate in first division. Then he came to Kathmandu for his further study with NRS. 1700 which his father took loan on 36% interest for his higher studies. He spent that money on renting a room and buying materials for the room.
The days were very struggling for him, he used to sketch and selling the utensils to collect little money which then he invested in admission in Ratna Rajya Campus. By cracking the joke and performing mimicry among his friends, he used get treat of foods. After few months of the settlement in Kathmandu, he desired to be artist and started to share the room with comedian artist Khem Sharma. With Khem Sharma he extended his introduction with many national artists but unfortunately he didn’t get the great opportunity to expose himself. Once he felt frustated and returned back to Jhapa but sooner he decided to come back Kathmandu for struggling hard. At the same time, he got opportunity for the short dialogue on very popular TV show “Hijo Aaja ka Kura”. Infact comedian artist Jitu Nepal formally introduced him in this film industry. He get introduced with Kedar Ghimire(Magne Budo) on the set of Geetanjali Telefilm. In the same time, he worked in fourteen episodes of Tito Satya with Dipak Raj Giri. After then, he with Kedar Ghimire made the concept of Meri Bassai. The duo gets very popular as Dhurmus and Magne Budo characters from Meri Bassai. He was then very popular with characters as Dhurmus, Khadkaji, Muskan Pasa, with mimicry of K.P Sharma, Khadananda and more than dozens of characters.
With the flow of time, he got married with his own co-star of Meri Bassai Kunjana Ghimire very popular as Suntali. At the date they have a very lovely daughter Subihani. Similarly, He recently is involved in film production and acted, production in comedy based hit films “Cha Eka Cha” and “Oda Number 6”.
After the devastating earthquake 2072 B.S. Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) with his better half Kunjana Ghimire (Suntali) duo is very actively involved in social welfare works. In initiation of them, the model village of 22 houses is built in Pahari Gaun, Kavre. The Nepal’s first model village is very popular as Dhurmus Suntali Integrated Residency. Similarly they have recently distributed the relief materials among the community people of Musahar people (one of the most deprived people of Nepal) of Bardibas. They have established Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation in 2072 B.S. for continuation of their social welfare works.
